Hero Kids

The heroes are on their last day of a recruitment workshop at the prestigious Tsygan Intergalactic Boarding School (TIBS). To their surprise, they are under investigation by Star Shield (due to their involvement in the events of Exchange Student 0-2) and confined to detention at the J Bender Analog Library.  Unknown to them, the library has other visitors from the Droid Authority. The droids intent: steal an ancient book of magic from the library's Brecken Vale wing. A battle soon erupts between TIBS security forces and the droid intruders with the heroes caught in the middle!

What is the true objective of the Droid Authority? Can Star Shield be trusted? And what is the truth about Nadic energy? These questions will weigh heavy on the heroes as they are presented with a choice that will change their lives (and possibly the galaxy) forever.

While visiting the school's athletic facilities, they are approached by Dr Nova, a professor of Mythical Zoology. Strange and dangerous things are happening in the Stardragon habitat. Trouble in the Basement - Hero Kids Fiction

Trouble in the Basement is the first in what we hope to be a series of fictional adventures for Hero Kids.

This is not a roleplaying adventure for your young heroes to play, but a story to read (or listen to) and enjoy. The story is in a relatively new genre called LitRPG—a story that includes obvious elements from the roleplaying game on which it is based.

Introduction

This short story introduces the reader to a few of the young heroes in Rivenshore and the types of adventures they have. The adventure takes place in the basement of the Block and Tackle Tavern and the newly discovered caves leading out from it.

Although this story is loosely based on, and is a prelude to, the Basement O' Rats adventure available with the Hero Kids core system, it should not ruin that adventure for your young heroes. If you read this to them (or they read it themselves) before playing the adventure, it should spark their imagination and desire to find out for themselves what's going on beneath the Block and Tackle Tavern. Reading this story after playing the adventure will provide the excitement of seeing how the bigger story fits together and to compare experiences.

We have tried to give a sample of the Hero Kids system and roleplaying, while changing up the story and leaving options to the readers' imaginations (like how they might have used food in their inventory).

It is our intention and hope that this short story encourages young heroes to experience adventures for themselves, turn those adventures into their own stories, and to tell those stories to others.

Reader Level Note: Trouble in the Basement is about 5500 words (about half the length of a “chapter book”), has a Flesch Reading Ease of 89.6, and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level of 3.1.

In Yuletide: An Uninvited Guest

The heroes find more excitement than expected while fetching a tree for the Yuletide celebration. They must rescue the woodcutter, who has been captured by a witch, and are followed home by another young hero from an alpine village who has become lost and has been running from timber wolves. When the Yuletide festivities are disrupted and the tree destroyed, some suspect the alpine visitor, but the real uninvited guest is the witch’s familiar, sent to get even with the meddlesome heroes.

Through the adventure, the heroes learn to defend someone unlike them and gain understanding for those who can be unkind because they are under too much pressure, rather than being a bad person.

Rivenshore—a home to young heroes and a village perpetually struck with disasters and strange occurrences. This time around, the culprit is a traveling merchant named Boris who arrives with a cart smack full of kobold hatchlings. They are to be sold off in the big city, destined to expand the sewers and work in the ill-famed salt mines. Costumed as a dragon, the merchant’s stooge Wilfried lured the young kobolds out of their homes and into the cart where the evil Boris trapped them.
